“…The previous types, such as Ethernet PON (EPON) and Gigabit PON (GPON) according to the IEEE 802.3ah standard [2] and ITU-T G.984 recommendation [3], are currently being replaced by updated PON solutions, 10GEPON presented within IEEE 802.3av std. [4] and XG-PON in ITU-T G.987 [5] rec. All these PON types mentioned above are based on time-division multiplex (TDM) principle while both upstream and downstream TDM frames consist of multiple contributions to/from all active end-points optical network units (ONUs) [6].…”

“…Various materials can be considered, but thermoplastic based 3D printers are the most popular. Although the commonly used materials tend to have moderately high losses and the fabrication tolerance of low-end printers is presently of the order of 200 micron, the viability of a 3D printed lens antenna made of ABS (tan  = 0.008) for short range indoor wireless link at 60 GHz has been recently demonstrated (Bisognin 2014). A similar technique can be used to manufacture lenses using higher permittivity lower loss materials like Alumina (Ngoc Tinh 2010).…”

“…This is particularly important in applications at millimetre waves like high bit rate communications at 60 GHz (Bisognin 2014) or automotive anticollusion radar at 77 GHz (Ka Fai 2014). Alternatively, the integrated lens can be used to shape the radiation pattern of the feed into a desired pattern.…”

“…The design of flat lens antennas have been discussed in several recent publications [1] - [7]. Such a lens antenna can be designed to have a high gain and wide bandwidth and still maintain its low-profile characteristics.…”
