3D Survey Systems and Digital Simulations for Structural Monitoring of Rooms at the Uffizi Museum in Florence

Abstract: This article presents research activities conducted on several rooms as part of the extension project of the Grandi Uffizi Museum in Florence (Italy). The research addresses survey methods for monitoring the static performance and evaluating the structural plastic deformations of vaulted systems and architectural elements, mostly subjected to structural reinforcements. In order to achieve positive results, the most appropriate 2D and 3D graphic representation methods have been identified, to enable the realiza… Show more

“…• Red: architectures reconstructed on the basis of typological comparisons of contemporary works and neighboring territories or sources interpreted as lacking archaeological evidence. The corpus of 2D and 3D works produced, developed through a critical reading of the data and a discretization of the information massively acquired by the instruments, has been configured, as will be seen, both as a reliable documentation tool for the analysis of historical-archaeological and metric-architectural aspects, but also as a digital support for the creation of virtual fruition systems intended for storytelling and dissemination experiences (Parrinello, 2023).…”

“…In addition to the foregoing, given the possibility to capture different stages of a certain project, TLS is also useful for obtaining the data that permit assessing the conservation of a certain structure [32], documenting complex processes of restoration [33], and/or generating models that, in combination with other computational tools, allow for the analysis of the effect of interventions aimed at guaranteeing the stability of a certain building [34].…”
