43‐2: Development of Zero‐bezel Display Utilizing a Waveguide Image Transformation Element

Abstract: In this study, we have developed an image transforming optical element which realized a zero-bezel flat panel display module. The zero-bezel display module worked not only at the front view but also did at the oblique view, so that omnidirectional image expression was achieved. In addition, resolution of the display was not degraded after addition of the optical element because the resolution of the image transformation element was higher enough to deliver the image with the original resolution. This achieveme… Show more

“…Nowadays, organic light emitting diode (OLED) is considered as one of the most promising and long-term display technology for their high efficiency and wide application. At the same time, the flexible OLED display for mobile devices has come to the "age of bezel-less display" with the display area covers over 90% of the front panel [1]- [3].…”

“…This is particularly true for emerging highresolution micro-LED (µLED) displays. A well-accepted, costeffective approach for creating a large-area display is to tile multiple small format displays to form a large-area display [1][2][3][4]. However, one of the major issues of a tiled display is visible seam lines on a tiled display screen at the boundaries of adjacent small format displays.…”

“…However, one of the major issues of a tiled display is visible seam lines on a tiled display screen at the boundaries of adjacent small format displays. To overcome this problem, various approaches have been proposed such as overlapping the edge of small format displays [1], utilizing different optical devices to cover the seam lines to redirect light from adjacent emitting areas [2,3], and employing optical edge blending techniques by electronic adjustment of the adjacent pixels [4]. Recently, the study on how to reduce seam visibility by improving panel border design, process realization, and encapsulation method is reported [5].…”

“…In our study, we have tried to introduce new BPS material and novel structure design for uniformity PS height in active area (AA) and enhanced the process window [5]. In recent years, the narrow border or bezel less display technology become the mainstream market [6][7][8]. However, BPS technology only applies to the wide border display panel, typically larger than 6-7mm.…”
