In this study, as elemental research for developing a device with a nonreciprocal response, the double-diffraction waveguide-type acousto-optic modulator (AOM) with interchangeable input and output ports was investigated. The AOM was designed by a simulation analysis and fabricated for an optical wavelength of 633 nm. The maximum doubly diffracted beam power of 0.45 was obtained analytically. Moreover, the double-diffraction properties of a fabricated AOM were measured in two beam propagation directions, and almost similar results to the analytical properties were obtained.
