51.3: Stable Quantum Dot Nanocomposites for Display Application

Abstract

Quantum dots (QDs) are promising luminescent materials for display application owing to their excellent optical properties and easy processing. However, it is still challenging to achieve high efficiency and stability for QDs in practical LED application because of their high surface sensitivity to air, heat and moisture. Here we summary the recent developments in efficiency and stability enhancement of QDs in terms of surface chemistry, thermal management and light extraction of QDs in LED devices. We show that the QDs can withstand critical condition (85 °C/85 RH/high light density) with the properly designed surface encapsulation equipped with air‐barrier, thermal conductivity and optical scattering characteristics. The surface modification of QDs towards high compatibility with polymer matrices and micro/nano manufacturing is discussed. Finally, the performance and optical properties of the QD‐nanocomposites are summarized with a prospect for nano/micro‐LED display applications.
