52.1: System Design for a High Color‐Gamut TV‐Sized AMOLED Display

Abstract: Using current technology, it is possible to design and fabricate performance-competitive TV-sized AMOLED displays. In this paper the system design considerations are described that lead to the selection of the device architecture (including a stacked white OLED-emitting unit), the backplane technology (an amorphous Si backplane with compensation for TFT degradation), and module design (for long life and low cost). The resulting AMOLED displays will meet performance and lifetime requirements, and will be manufa… Show more

“…White organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) have attracted great interest by researchers as eco-friendly lighting sources as an alternative to a mercury containing fluorescent lamp and is a strong candidate as a large-scale process for OLED TV. 1,2 The elimination of the fine metal mask (FMM) is a big advantage of WOLEDs with a color filter (CF) in the manufacturing process. However, it has been challenged due to low efficiency and lifetime.…”

“…White organic light emitting diodes (WOLEDs) have attracted researchers' great interests as a eco-friendly lighting sources as a alternatives instead of mercury contained fluorescent lamp and strong candidate of readily large-scale process for OLED TV. 1,2 No need of fine metal mask (FMM) is a great advantage of WOLEDs with the color filter (CF) in the manufacturing process. However, it has been challenged due to those low efficiency and lifetime.…”
