5G Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB): Evaluation of Scheduling Algorithms Performances for Time-Division Duplex Mode

Abstract: 5G mobile communications introduce novel solutions to overcome the frequency spectrum’s shortage. It broadens the spectrum band to millimeter-waves, employs multiple numerologies to calculate subcarrier spacing, and supports various division duplex modes. Furthermore, the fifth generation of mobile networks intends to employ both, frequency division duplex, and time division duplex. This study focuses on Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode. Compared to the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD), the time duplex mode enha… Show more

“…This scheme obtains higher throughput while maintaining fairness between UEs. In [16], the authors studied and compared the performance of different scheduling schemes, i.e., RR, SPF, and BCQI, on time-division duplex (TDD) mode, where various traffic types were considered, e.g., voice over internet protocol (VoIP), video streaming, and cloud storage. This study evaluated scheme performance in terms of throughput, but it neglects other metrics such as UE fairness and satisfaction.…”

“…LTE operates in two modes, namely FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) and TDD (Time Division Duplex). (Mamane et al, 2022), . FDD uses different frequencies between downlink and uplink Holma & Toskala, 2011).…”

“…This share is highly expected to be further expanded from 78 exabytes (EB) in 2021 shooting up to 370 EB by 2027. The modern multimedia services are considered the QoS dominant traffic theme and the technology driver in evolved mobile systems [2], [3]. Therein, data rates of several Gbps with low fractions of latency under high-speed user mobility and dense scenarios are attainable for real-time applications.…”

“…In that, the prominent features of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) technology are being leveraged at the downlink (DL) channel. This enables a high system capacity with ideal QoS gains by simultaneously transmitting traffic of different users who are multiplexed in time and frequency domains [4], [33].…”
