In-network softwarization, Network Slicing provides scalability and flexibility through various services such as Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) to cover the network demands. For the QoS, a set of policies must be considered in real-time, accompanied by a group of functions and services to guarantee the end-user needs based on network demand. On the other hand, for the QoE, the service's performance needs to be improved to bring an efficient service to cover the demands of the end-user. The 3G Partnership Project (3GPP) defined the slice as a component of resources used to process a set of packets. These resources need to be flexible, which means the resources can be scaled up or down based on the demand. This survey discusses softwarization and virtualization techniques, considering how to implement the slices for future networks. Specifically, we discuss current advances concerning the functionality and architecture of the 5G network. Therefore, the paper critically evaluates recent research and systems related to mobility management as a service in real-time inter/intra slice control by considering the strengths and limitations of these contributions to identify the research gaps and possible research directions for emerging research and development opportunities. Moreover, we extend our review by considering the slice types and their numbers based on the 3GPP Technical Specification (3GPP TS). The study presented in this paper identifies open issues and research directions that reveal that mobility management at a service level with inter/intra slice management techniques has strong potential in future networks and requires further investigation from the research community to exploit its benefits fully.

The virtual resources of 5G networks are expected to scale and support migration to other locations within the substrate. In this context, a configuration for 5G network slices details the instantaneous mapping of the virtual resources across all slices on the substrate, and a feasible configuration satisfies the Service-Level Objectives (SLOs) without overloading the substrate. Reconfiguring a network from a given source configuration to the desired target configuration involves identifying an ordered sequence of feasible configurations from the source to the target. The proposed solutions for finding such a sequence are optimized for data centers and cannot be used as-is for reconfiguring 5G network slices. We present Matryoshka, our divide-and-conquer approach for finding a sequence of feasible configurations that can be used to reconfigure 5G network slices. Unlike previous approaches, Matryoshka also considers the bandwidth and latency constraints between the network functions of network slices. Evaluating Matryoshka required a dataset of pairs of source and target configurations. Because such a dataset is currently unavailable, we analyze proof of concept roll-outs, trends in standardization bodies, and research sources to compile an input dataset. On using Matryoshka on our dataset, we observe that it yields closeto-optimal reconfiguration sequences 10X faster than existing approaches.

The rapid involution of the mobile generation with incipient data networking capabilities and utilization has exponentially increased the data traffic volumes. Such traffic drains various key issues in 5G mobile backhaul networks. Security of mobile backhaul is of utmost importance; however, there are a limited number of articles, which have explored such a requirement. This paper discusses the potential design issues and key challenges of the secure 5G mobile backhaul architecture. The comparisons of the existing state-of-the-art solutions for secure mobile backhaul, together with their major contributions have been explored. Furthermore, the paper discussed various key issues related to Quality of Service (QoS), routing and scheduling, resource management, capacity enhancement, latency, security-management, and handovers using mechanisms like Software Defined Networking and millimeter Wave technologies. Moreover, the trails of research challenges and future directions are additionally presented.
