Smart City has been an emerging research domain for Government, Businesses, and researchers in the last few years. The Indian government is also interested and investing lots of funds to develop smart cities. These cities are technology-based and require interdisciplinary research and development for successful implementation. Over the last few decades, various technological interventions have created a tendency to provide smart everyday objects to make human life more comfortable. The emergence of the smart city paradigm is a response to creating a future city that guarantees the well-being and rights of its citizens from the perspective of industrial development: industry, urban planning, environment, and sustainable development. There are several subdomains in the smart city for the research. To work with the different subdomains in a smart city, proper guidance about the background of the smart city is required. This research paper is a guide for the same. This research paper represents a systematic literature review of the smart city domain. This paper carries out a systematic review of research papers published in various well-reputed journals like IEEE, Springer, Elsevier, etc., between 2011 and. This paper will help the government, businesses, and researchers aiming to enhance the smart city concept. Initially, this paper discusses the origin and emergence of this concept, followed by a few definitions and characteristics with the real roadmap and primary supporting pillars of the smart city. This paper discusses a typical architecture having different layers like Sensing, Transportation, Data Management, and Application Layers. There are various supporting technologies and platforms for the smart city; hence implementations are impossible without these technologies and media. This research paper discusses different components of the smart city. A broad literature survey is being done to observe various challenges, opportunities, and future trends in the smart city. This research paper can guide the researchers and provide the research direction in the smart city domain.

Widespread use of agile software development (ASD) methods can be observed nowadays. Non-functional requirements (NFRs) are often reported to be a problematic issue for agile projects, since ASD methods tend to neglect NFRs while focusing on incremental delivery of functional features. Despite that, only very few studies have explored the requirements engineering practices used in ASD and dedicated particularly to NFRs. Objective: We aimed to identify and investigate the practices used in industrial ASD projects to identify, elicit and document NFRs. Method: We conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) and used its findings to prepare an interview guide. We then conducted a series of semi-structured interviews with 10 experienced practitioners. Results: The SLR revealed a number of strategies related to the timing of NFR identification as well as 13 elicitation practices and 20 documentation techniques. At least some of these findings show discrepancies between ASD theory and practice. The interviews provided a more in-depth understanding of the practices used, and their context. The main findings from the interviews include: practitioners' attempts to start identifying NFRs early in the project, a lack of elicitation techniques aimed at NFRs only, and different choices about documentation techniques, including the additional techniques introduced to cope specifically with NFRs. Conclusions: It was not confirmed that requirements engineering activities related to NFRs are perceived by ASD practitioners as a problem, as they developed effective practices to deal with this issue. Moreover, our findings show that different approaches to NFRs can be used and give satisfactory results.

SummaryNetwork “softwarization” is enabling new features such as detecting the risk to violate a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and performing the required automated control actions on a network slice. A real‐time Network Function Virtualization (NFV) Management and Orchestration (MANO) system should detect any SLA degradation and act to recover the SLA. The closed‐loop automation approach monitors the state of the network and triggers policy‐based control actions when needed. The delay between the detection of an SLA issue and the completion of a correcting action is critical for satisfying latency‐related SLAs. Thus, in this article we propose this delay as a new key performance indicator (KPI) for NFV MANO systems, which we call Closed‐Loop Orchestration Delay (CLOD). CLOD is subdivided into independent time intervals that depend on the NFV MANO platform, the target Virtualized Infrastructure Management (VIM) and the target virtual network function (VNF) software. CLOD is evaluated on a real use case: a latency‐sensitive elastic network slice in which Internet user round‐trip time (RTT) is monitored. When the service level of the slice drops below a predefined limit a new data plane is deployed near the user reducing latency. In the evaluation, we considered two approaches: (i) a general implementation of the NFV MANO architecture based on the Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP) and OpenStack and (ii) an optimized ad‐hoc baseline implementation to minimize CLOD. We provide the details of both implementations and compare their CLODs leading to useful insights for the NFV MANO community.
