Abstract

WARWICKSHIRE (1) Radford Semele, Spring Lane (SP 34215 64219): archaeological excavation in advance of a proposed residential development uncovered part of a ditched boundary aligned north-south, with a return on the east side and an entrance, confirming the results of a previous geophysical survey. The features are likely to form part of a field-system dating from the late Iron Age to early Roman period, probably associated with an unidentified settlement located somewhere in the vicinity. The paucity of artefactual evidence suggests that the settlement was not particularly close. 89 WORCESTERSHIRE (1) Bredon, Oak Lane (SO 9250 3670): an excavation identified the remains of a Roman farmstead which comprised a probable roundhouse and a well, surrounded by enclosures. The finds assemblage revealed that these were occupied from the first to the late third/fourth centuries, with abandonment having occurred by the early fourth century. The skeletal remains of one human and several dogs, as well as a number of cremation urns and three well-preserved leather shoes, were retrieved from the well, most likely representing a deliberate symbolic closure of the feature when the settlement was abandoned. 90
