68Ga-DOTATATE PET in neuroectodermal tumours: First experience

Abstract: The findings in our small group of patients demonstrate the value of somatostatin receptor PET imaging in malignant phaeochromocytoma. In lesions with no or low MIBG uptake, the next investigation of choice should be PET imaging with 68Ga-DOTATATE, in view to therapy with Y-labelled DOTATATE.

“…However, in our data, significantly more metastatic lesions with somatostatin receptor expression than glucose metabolism were detected, particularly in osseous metastases. The finding of such high detectability in metastatic lesions clearly demonstrates that somatostatin receptor expression could be link to more aggressive behaviour of tumours [23][24][25]. Furthermore, a recently published study also showed that a more Bcomplex relationship^exists, where matched somatostatin receptor expression and glucose metabolism lesions was seen in higher tumoural grade in NET [37].…”

“…Although the diagnostic yield of 68 Ga-DOTA-peptides PET/CT in the detection of PCC/ PGL has been evaluated in several studies [23][24][25][26], its promising role in these tumours is still not largely accepted.…”

“…68 Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT was recently introduced into PPGL imaging and has shown excellent results in the patient groups evaluated thus far, which mainly include those with sporadic and SDHBrelated metastatic PPGL as well as head and neck PGLs (13,(29)(30)(31)(32)(33)(34).…”

“…This result has been corroborated by a study in which 68 Ga-DOTA-TATE was used to assess malignant pheochromocytoma in comparison with CT and 123 I-MIBG in a small group of five patients, in whom SRS findings were positive for several lesions that had negative or low MIBG uptake (Figure 4) [55] .…”
