9.1: A 3.5‐inch OLED Display using a 4‐TFT Pixel Circuit with an Innovative Pixel Driving Scheme

Abstract: A new pixel circuit for the “clamped inverter driving method” reported previously is developed. The pixel circuit is composed of four TFTs, one capacitor and five signal lines including power supply. A 3.5‐inch OLED display with the proposed new pixel circuit has been fabricated by LTPS processing and COG of an existing LCD driver chip. A vertical scanning circuit and selector switches are integrated in the panel. The proposed driving scheme is confirmed as OLED display to produce 6‐bit gray‐scale, gamma corre… Show more

“…Pixel circuits in the prototyped AMOLED panel can control gamma characteristics for respective RGB colors. 6 When the CD-DAC circuit needs to do so, the reference lines should be tripled (192 lines). In this case, the height of the circuit cell is doubled or less, not tripled, and the height of the driver circuit can be about 4.5 mm.…”

“…5V for most other circuits) then this circuit will show around a 50% reduction in display power consumption at the beginning of the display life. In reference [4] a low power consumption pixel circuit is shown but this does not have the differential ageing correction capability of the circuit shown here.…”

“…1 Regarding the problem of image non-uniformity, we proposed a driving scheme refered to as clamped inverter driving at the 2003, 2004, and 2005 SID Symposia, and in the Journal of the SID. [2][3][4][5][6] Clamped inverter (CI) driving is a type of constant-anodevoltage (CV) driving, so it also achieves low power consumption and peak luminance. For the other problem of aging, we suggested a luminance compensation that increases the anode voltage when the OLED-display luminance deteriorated at SID '05.…”
