A 2-order MIMO full-duplex antenna system

Abstract: The paper presents an antenna system with combined full-duplex and 2-order multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) functionalities, i.e., a system capable of spatially multiplexing and spatially demultiplexing 2 datastreams in the same frequency and in the same time. By exploiting symmetries in the construct and the feed, simple corrective beamforming weights can be applied at the transmitter (Tx) ports in order to selectively cancel the Tx signal at the receiver (Rx) ports, thus guaranteeing a large amount of i… Show more

“…Thus, different works have considered the sub-6 GHz band as an important candidate for 5G communications [10]- [12]. One of the key features of 5G is to exploit the Full-Duplex (FD) technology [13], [14]. FD radio technology has attracted significant research attention to introduce a new communication model, where the same carrier frequency is deployed for concurrent transmission and reception at the same user equipment or base station [13].…”

FD radio technology has attracted significant research attention to introduce a new communication model, where the same carrier frequency is deployed for concurrent transmission and reception at the same user equipment or base station [13]. Theoretically, it is doubling the system throughput over conventional HD MIMO while requiring no additional bandwidth [14], [15].…”

“…In our previous work [6], we proposed an SI cancellation technique based on a combination of null-steering beamforming and antenna polarisation diversity. In this Letter, we follow up this work by providing the experimental results for the proposed technique in [6]. Our measurement results show that using the proposed technique, SI can be effectively mitigated up to 60 dB.…”
