A BiCMOS 10Gb/s adaptive cable equalizer

Abstract: A cable equalizer for IOGbis broadband data using a SiGe BiCMOS process is presented. The circuit consists of a feedforward amplifier with a variable peaked that compensates for a copper cable of length up lo 3 feet, and a feedback circuit that detects the data transition times and generates an appropriate control voltage. The detector makes use o f a novel circuit based on the source-coupled node of a differential pair.

“…The edge-speed detection and spectrum balancing technique are widely adopted in conventional equalizers [2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. These techniques either utilize offset-sensitive rectifiers 978-1-4673-0219-7/12/$31.00 ©2012 IEEE or have complex dual-loop designs.…”

“…Utilizing an adaptive cable equalizer is an efficient and robust solution to equalize the received signal. Recently, relevant papers on high speed equalizers were published [2][3][4][5][6][7]. Wide bandwidth circuit techniques are extensively adopted, such as resistive and capacitive source degeneration, inductive peaking, negative capacitance, and active feedback.…”
