Abstract: Patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection have an increased likelihood of venous thromboembolism (VTE) owing to factors such as acquired protein C and S deficiency, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, and heightened levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
