“…Multiple diagnostic criteria for FES have been proposed [2][3][4] . Although hypoxemia is a common presenting symptom of FES, diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) is a rare complication of FES presenting as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and hemoptysis 5 . This case describes a young man with a minimally displaced tibial shaft fracture who rapidly developed hypoxemic respiratory failure and hemoptysis from DAH secondary to FES, resulting in a complicated intensive clinical course before fixation.…”
