Abstract:A 74-year-old man with rectal cancer underwent laparoscopic low anterior resection in December 2013. After surgery, he was administered adjuvant chemotherapy for 4 months, but the treatment had to be discontinued because of the emergence of adverse events. The serum carcinoembryonic antigen level was elevated to 5.6 ng/ml in August 2015. However, abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed no metastasis or recurrence for 1 year.
