DepartmentsofSurgery 1) ,Gastroenterology 2) andPathology 3) ,HirakaGeneralHospital Gastricendocrinetumorsarerare,accountingfor0.1-0.6%ofallgastricmalignancies.Brainmetastasesfromgastriccancerarealsorare,withareportedfrequencyofaround0.5%.Therehaveonlybeen casereportsofsporadicbrainmetastasesfromgastriccancer. Apatientwhounderwentsurgeryforapoorlydifferentiatedcancerofthestomachwasdiagnosedas havinggastricneuroendocrinecanceraftersurgery.Thepatientcouldnottoleratetheadjuvanttherapy for gastric cancer. Two years after the operation the tumor marker pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP)increasedgradually,andrecurrencewassuspected,butnometastaticlesioncouldbeidentified. Three years after the operation, a computed tomography (CT) scan of the lower part of the neck was scheduled,andunexpectedlyfindabrainmetastasis,whichresultedinthediagnosisandtreatmentofan asymptomatic,sporadicbrainmetastasis.Thiscaseisreportedwithparticularconsiderationoftheperiod untilrecurrence.
