A case study of robotic simulations using virtual commissioning supported by the use of virtual reality

Abstract: Virtual Commissioning (VC) is a method and tool for verifying and testing the PLC control program on a virtual digital model of the manufacturing system. It allows to visualize and test the control system before the real commissioning of the production systems. The aim of the research is to implement virtual reality (VR) into the VC method and to verify the mutual interaction of signals between the simulation in VR environment, the digital model of the production system and the control system. The introduction… Show more

“…The development of virtual commissioning has focused on the area of testing new equipment and machines without damaging any of them [16][17][18]. We have been working on this issue for several years within many different projects [19][20][21]. As a result, there are clear conclusions that, from a technical point of view, our work has confirmed the benefits of virtual commissioning.…”

“…The designed system integrates low-cost, commercially available hardware to facilitate hand tracking and VR display. It is also worth mentioning [ 194 ], wherein the authors focus on the development cycle of a production system. The authors implement virtual reality (VR) into the virtual commissioning (VC) method to verify the mutual interaction of signals between the simulation in the VR environment, the digital model of the selected production system, and the control system.…”
