“…Nestler et al (1936) used a diet containing sufficient riboflavin to meet minimum requirements for hatchability, but found that another factor was needed. Rubin and Bird (1947) stated that a diet containing 70% soybean oil meal increased the need for the nutrient found in cow manure. Christiansen et al (1939) expanded the list of substances that contained this factor by obtaining growth response in a cornsoybean oil meal type diet with dried skimmed milk, whey, yeast, meat scrap, liver meal and sardine oil meal.…”
