A classification for multiple mission observation concepts

Abstract

Terms such as "sensonvebs," "satellite trains," and "constellations" are used to describe multiple mission observation concepts. This paper categorizes these concepts based upon how they observe. The observation aspects are: (1) the spatial distribution of the observations, (2) the degree of similarity of the observations, and (3) requirement for real-time observation coordination. The author proposes a taxonomy for these concepts based on names already proposed or in common use. Similar classifications could be based upon aspects such as communication or location. The author hopes this work will help advance the discussion and development of multiple mission Observation capabilities.
