“…Although new information on whole skin and dermis can be reached at the molecular level through near‐infrared diffusive‐reflection (NIR‐DR), attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR‐FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance/magnetic resonance imaging (NMR/MRI), dynamic vapour sorption (DVS), changes in dermis hydration with age yield somewhat conflicting results, which could be attributed to the preparation of samples.…”

“…Measurements using NIR-DR spectra were measured from the forearm (sun-exposed) and upper arm (sun-protected) for females, and the spectra obtained underwent principal component analysis. Results suggest that contributions from both intrinsic and extrinisic aging of the skin can be accurately and quantitatively assessed using NIR-DR spectroscopy [44]. This may represent a promising new technique in non-invasive assessment of skin aging.…”

“…A third study proposed a near-infrared diffuse reflectance (NIR-DR) spectroscopy method for the non-invasive evaluation of changes [44,45]. This was first validated in mice, and most recently reported in human skin [44,45].…”

“…3,[11][12][13][14][15] Thus, NIR imaging is also very useful for probing thick samples or bulk materials with little or no sample preparation required, even when the sample contains a large volume of water. IR spectra consist of many sharp bands assignable to specific functional groups, and thus, development of IR image is frequently performed by measuring well-defined peak heights or peak areas of spectral bands corresponding to fundamental transitions.…”
