A Compact Dielectric Resonator Antenna Excited by a Planar Monopole Patch for Wideband Applications

Abstract: A compact dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) suitable for wideband applications is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna is mainly composed by a notched cylindrical dielectric resonator (DR) coated with a metal surface on the top and a finite ground plane where the presented DR is placed. This antenna is very simple in structure and has a very low overall height of0.14λminat its lowest operation frequency. A comprehensive parametric study is carried out based on Ansoft HFSS to optimize the bandwidth. T… Show more

“…In addition to geometry and to dielectric materials, the antenna excitation system may have a significant impact on the bandwidth of the radiating structure. In particular, an antenna composed of a dielectric spacer, made of foam having a dielectric constant close to one, on which a DR is placed, having a dielectric constant = 9.8 (adopted dielectric material TMM10i), and with a metal plate placed on the top surface of the DR, has been proposed in [197]. The DR is excited by means of a trapezoidal monopole patch, attached to the side surface of the resonator on which a suitable notch is realized, connected to an SMA connector.…”

“…To improve the coupling performance between the microstrip feed line and the dielectric resonator, two different permittivity substrates are used to construct the dielectric resonator (Li et al, 2016). The proposed antenna consists of a grounded Arlon dielectric substrate of dimension 70mm×70mm×0.9mm with permittivity ε r =3.8.…”
