A compact double-band planar printed slot antenna for sub-6 GHz 5G wireless applications

Abstract: A planar rectangular slot antenna with dual-band operation and realized higher peak gain is proposed, designed, and fabricated for sub-6 GHz 5G applications. The antenna possesses a rectangular radiating slot with the inverted stub on its upper edge excited simultaneously by a micro-strip feed line having a double folded T-shaped structure. The fabricated design is of compact size with the radiating portion of 0.3 λ0 × 0.17 λ0 (λ0 represents free-space wavelength) and profile of 0.009 λ0. The measured results … Show more

“…The achieved results for these two filters with regard to the reflection coefficient are higher than -35 dB. Also for miniature antennas, several examples have been discussed [11][12][13], among this antennas what is called Diamond Antenna (DA) [14,15]. In order to benefit from the two functionalities radiating and filtering while keeping a small size these two components which are the filter and the antenna are combined in one module it is called the filtenna or filtering antenna [16][17][18].…”

“…A substrate-integrated waveguide broadband, with high gain and low-cost features, is presented in [ 19 ]. For 60 GHz bands, a single-layered SIW feeding network for achieving high gain with wide bandwidth is employed with a combined structure of cavity-backed patch antenna and wide-band T-junction.…”

“…These are traditional bandwidth enhancement techniques used for microwave microstrip antenna which enhances bandwidth but affects other performance parameters such as gain, side lobe levels, cross-polar level, and radiation pattern. Various bandwidth enhancement techniques which are used by the researchers [281] for mm-wave 5G antenna are discussed in this paper. A combination of various technologies is required to use simultaneously in antenna designing, so bandwidth is increased while maintaining other parameters as per the requirement of 5G.…”
