“…For bees, we found the Mediterranean countries to host the highest diversity, as previously observed by other authors (Leclercq et al, 2022; Michener, 2007; Nieto et al, 2014; Orr et al, 2021). The three most species‐rich countries for bees are Greece, Spain and Italy.…”

“…Vane traps and target netting can be effective methods for collecting bumble bees (Stephen & Rao, 2005; Strange & Tripodi, 2019); however, only a few studies compared the two methods. Bee bowls are commonly used to capture bees (Droege et al, 2010; Leclercq et al, 2022; Packer & Darla‐West, 2021; Prendergast et al, 2020), and vane traps are a newer method and may be a valuable tool to assess bees. Estimating how the bee assemblages differ among methods is sorely lacking, and will help us develop better methodologies to monitor declining species and compare existing dataset.…”

“…We selected key apple-pollinating bee species (KABS) using two methodologies. Using the CliPS (Climate change and its effect on Pollination Services) study conducted in 2019 across 88 commercial apple orchards in fifteen European countries (Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and the United Kingdom) (see Table S1, Leclercq et al (2022) and Leclercq et al, (2023), for site information and the methodology behind their selection). Any species that was found within the top 5% of species visiting the apple blossoms in two or more sites was classified as a KABS.…”
