A comparative analysis of natural zeolites from various Cuban and Mexican deposits: structure, composition, thermal properties and hierarchical porosity

“…The characterization of the selected sorbent provided the following results: (a) the true density of Chabazite/Phillipsite granules resulted equal to 2.256 ± 0.003 g cm − 3 , a typical value for a natural zeolite [36]; (b) the BET specific surface area resulted 109 m 2 g − 1 , a relatively high value in comparison to the ones typically found in natural zeolites, in the 4-84 m 2 g − 1 range [37]; (c) the XRD pattern confirmed that the dominant crystalline phases are Chabazite (#52-0784) and Phillipsite (#39-1375) (Fig. S3, Supplementary Material); (d) the pore size distribution is broadly distributed along the 0.007-100 µm range, with an average pore size diameter of 0.12 µm, the most frequent pore diameter at 1.24 µm and an open porosity equal to 30.2%, in agreement with the values found in other natural zeolites from different deposits [36,38]. This meso-macroporosity is due to slot pores and pores located between blocks of the zeolite crystallite and other minerals in the rocks.…”

“…The composition of both catalysts was determined using EDS analysis ( Table 1 ) and for erionite the presence of seven cations is confirmed where silicon and aluminum represent the highest proportion ( Figure 4 ) with a Si/Al ratio of 3.9 similar as reported in the literature 3.7 [ 18 ].
