A comparative study of the effects of different factors on firm technological innovation performance in different high-tech industries

Abstract: Purpose This paper aims to examine the different impacts of six variables on firm technological innovation performance in different high-tech industries in China. Through a comparative analysis of data about growth enterprises market board (GEM)-listed companies, this study attempts to get some conclusions, to help firms in different high-tech industries use resources more rationally and to improve technological innovation performance more effectively. “…Despite all the advantages, an increase in enterprise-scale may have some undesirable effects as well. Scholars have observed an inverted U-shaped relationship between enterprise-scale and innovation capability (Mei and Shao, 2016;Zhu et al, 2018). Too large a scale may result in overcomplicated organizational rules and structures, leading to rigidity in management.…”

“…Technology is one of the knowledge for accelerating the production process to achieve a higher number of outputs with given input factors (Re啪n媒 & Bure拧 2018). Empirical studies on the determinants of a firm's technological advancement focus on internal and external factors (Cai et al 2020, Seenaiah & Rath 2018, Zhu et al 2019. The internal factors affecting a firm's technology can be firm age (Akinwale et al 2018, Pellegrino & Piva 2020, Seenaiah & Rath 2018) and firm size (Akinwale et al 2018, Iza 2020.…”

“…Research literature focusing on innovation efficiency in China's high-tech manufacturing industry can be divided into three categories: the first category of literature deals with assessment of provincial innovation efficiency in the high-tech manufacturing industry with an emphasis on analyzing interprovincial differences in innovation efficiency [1][2][3]; another strand of literature has focused on industrylevel evaluations through examining industry-specific heterogeneity of innovation efficiency in the high-tech manufacturing industry [4][5][6][7]; finally, a small body of literature analyzed the influencing factors on innovation efficiency in the high-tech manufacturing industry based on survey data [8][9][10][11]. e most common method for estimating innovation efficiency in China's high-tech manufacturing industry is the DEA method [12][13][14], which has evolved from one-stage overall efficiency evaluation to multistage network efficiency evaluation [13][14][15][16].…”
