A Comparison of Two Studies of the Pressure Distribution under the Feet of Normal Subjects Using Different Equipment

Abstract: There is growing interest in the use of foot pressure measurement both clinically and in the study of normal subjects. A number of systems are now commercially available, but comparison of the results is complicated by the different techniques employed. This paper compares the results of two studies. The first examined a large group of normal subjects using the dynamic pedobarograph. The second was identical to the first except that the EMED F system was used. The second study was carried out in order to verif… Show more

“…The highest PP values were found under the M2, M3, M4 heads and heel zones at both feet. These findings are in agreement with the studies of Bryant et al and Hughes et al 33,37 Metatarsalgia may occur as a result of repetitive loading on metatarsal heads. Unbalanced distribution of load may be a reason of stress fractures and may lead to high pressure on metatarsal heads.…”

“…In gait analysis research, data are often pooled across three or five steps in order to produce mean values (ensemble averages); and represent an international accepted method to partially overcome the step-to-step variation of human gait [24]. We further explored the value of ensemble averaging to increase the robustness of the data analysis concerning inter-observer agreement.…”

“…Segundo Hughes et al (42) , o coeficiente de confiança aumentava à medida que se utilizava o maior número de passos na coleta de dados e trabalhava-se com os dados das médias das pressões. Em função da grande variabilidade dos dados biológicos, utilizamos, como parâmetro do valor que expressa a variável cinética, a média das três melhores passada (as que apresentam menor desvio padrão).…”
