N-ribosyldimethyl benzimidazole is the most common benzimidazole compound found in nature, and it functions as an axial ligand for cobalt in vitamin B12. The benzimidazole and its derivatives are important therapeutic agents, such as antiulcer and anthelmintic drugs.
