A computational laboratory for evolutionary trade networks

Abstract: This study presents, motivates, and Illustrates the use of a computational laboratory for the Investigation of evolutionary trade network formation among strategically Interacting buyers, sellers, and dealers. The computational laboratory, referred to as the Trade Network Game Laboratory (TNG Lab), Is targeted for the Microsoft Windows desktop. The TNG Lab is both modular and extensible, and has a clear, easily operated graphical user interface. It permits visualization of the formation and evolution of trade … Show more

“…Thus, as users gain more experience and confidence, they can begin to experiment with alternative module implementations to broaden the range of system applications encompassed by the CL. 10 For example, McFadzean et al [65] have developed a CL designed specifically for the study of trade network formation in a variety of market contexts. This CL, referred to as the Trade Network Game (TNG) Lab, comprises buyers, sellers, and dealers who repeatedly search for preferred trade partners, engage in risky trades modeled as noncooperative games, and evolve their trade strategies over time.…”

“…The CL comprises buyers, sellers, and dealers who repeatedly search for preferred trade partners, engage in risky trades modeled as non-cooperative games, and evolve their trade strategies over time. The architecture, capabilities and usefulness of the TNG Lab is introduced in [8]. Finally, the capabilities of the TNG Lab are demonstrated by means of labor-market experiments.…”

“…Compared with previous research, what is new about ACE is its exploitation of powerful new computational tools, most notably object oriented programming [6]. At present, ACE has been already applied broadly to marketplace formation [7], financial market evolution [8], stock market simulation [9,10], exchange network formation [11,12] and so on.…”
