“…The strong absorption bands having a centre at B770 cm À1 and B1420 cm À1 unambiguously denote the presence of B-N linkage (stretching mode), which can be attributed to the in-plane and out-of-plane vibration modes of the sp 2 hybridized BN. 43,44 The broadening observed in the B-N absorption bands can be ascribed to the incorporation of carbon atoms into the host BN lattice. 45 A sharp edge related to the B-C stretching bond is observed at B1240 cm…”

“…A removal of the oxygen impurities, coinciding with the growth and ordering of the BN layers to form crystalline BN, requires temperatures above 1350°C. [29,30] The diffraction pattern of BN coated on alumina ( Figure S3) shows a mixture of two alumina phases, γ-alumina and θ-alumina, the latter being obtained by thermal degradation of γ-alumina at temperatures above 800°C. Remarkably, no indication was found in the diffraction pattern for the formation of the thermodynamically stable α-alumina during the nitridation process, despite the thermal treatment of the coated material at 1100°C for 24 h.…”

“…4b and the identification of boron using EDX, the reduced powder was found to be SiC partly covered with t-BN. It is well known that t-BN is transformed into h-BN, [26][27][28] analogous to the structural Fig. 3.…”
