A Controller Synthesis Method to Achieve Independent Reference Tracking Performance and Disturbance Rejection Performance

Abstract: This paper deals with the conflict between the input–output response and the disturbance–output response, which cannot be completely eliminated by traditional and advanced control strategies without using the accurate process model. The inherently close association of these two responses and the unavailability of the accurate process model pose a great challenge to field test engineers of a coal-fired power plant, that is, the design requirements of reference tracking and disturbance rejection are compromised.… Show more

“…If the DDE-PI or PID is tuned appropriately, the closedloop output can accurately track the response of the typical firstor second-order system. Up to now, the advantages of DDE-PI or PID, such as fast and moderate reference tracking performance, strong disturbance rejection ability, and simple tuning procedure, have been validated by both simulations (Wang et al, 2009;Hu et al, 2010;Xue et al, 2010;Zhang et al, 2010;Makeximu et al, 2015;Wang et al, 2018) and field tests on the coal-fired power plant (Shi et al, 2022b;Shi et al, 2022c).…”

“…Perhaps we can consider from another perspective why low-order ADRC cannot handle high-order systems with large delay effectively. These studies 21,[33][34][35] reveal that ADRC is a reference model-based control method. ADRC configures the closed-loop system to the reference model, or the desired dynamics, through parameter tuning.…”
