Purpose Understanding the critical determinants for the adoption of electronic markets (e-markets) is significant for the development of sustainable electronic business. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the critical determinants for the adoption of e-markets in Australian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for electronic business. Design/methodology/approach A comprehensive review of the related studies is conducted. That leads to the development of a conceptual model for exploring the critical determinants for the adoption of e-markets in Australian SMEs. Such a model is then tested and validated using structural equation modelling on the survey data collected, leading to the identification of the critical determinants for e-market adoption in Australian SMEs. Findings The study reveals that perceived direct benefit, perceived trust, top management support and external pressures are critical for the adoption of e-markets in Australian SMEs. Perceived indirect benefit and organization readiness are insignificant for the adoption of e-markets. Originality/value This paper contributes to existing electronic business research by enriching the understanding of the critical determinants for the adoption of e-markets in Australian SMEs. Such a study provides government departments, e-market operators and SMEs with practical guidelines for the better use of e-markets in electronic business.

Background: The explosive growth of social media has rendered them powerful communication channels. User generated content is an important source of inspiration and influence among web friends, it generates new activities and consequently affects mobility decisions. Whether to visit a place, or how to get to a place of interest are decisions that can be triggered through people's interactions on social media. Objective: The main objective of this paper is to investigate the influence of social media use on activity planning and travel arrangements for women and men. Methods: An online survey was conducted to examine the social media use and the impact of the shared content for women and men, on the phase before any activity in an urban environment. Inferential statistics were applied to detect gender differences in a sample size comprised of 804 respondents. Result: The significant results showed that the variables gender and social media use for activity planning and travel arrangements are associated with each other. Results have also indicated that the influence of reviews and ratings, photos/ videos and proposed transport mode on activity planning is gender dependent. Photos/ videos influence more often both women (m=3.47) and men (m=3.00) than reviews and ratings (m=3.21 for women and 2.94 for men). Both these contents influence more than proposed transport mode (m=2.62 and 2.37 for women and men). Conclusion:The analysis of the results indicated that before an activity, both women and men tend to use majorly social media for activity planning and travel arrangements, while photos/videos influence women's decisions more often than men.Travel arrangements of the majority of respondents would be influenced by a post of a designated account related to transport. Finally, social media use affects travel arrangements of both women and men more before performing an activity rather than during.

Establishing a passenger flow prediction mechanism is necessary for quickly evacuating many passengers in an emergency, which can improve the service quality of urban rail transit (URT). To effectively forecast origin-destination (OD) passenger flows in URT under emergency conditions, 35-day automatic fare collection (AFC) data are used for a statistical analysis of the time, location and passenger flow aspects. The influence range of the OD passenger flow during an emergency is determined by analyzing the degree of passenger flow fluctuation. Considering the time period of an emergency occurrence and its continuous influence, this paper also studies the influence of an emergency occurring at a station, a section between two stations or a section across several stations. A spatial-temporal correlation prediction model of OD passenger flow based on nonlinear regression is constructed by introducing the concept of passenger flow spatialtemporal influencing parameters. According to the characteristics of URT lines, a passenger flow prediction algorithm is proposed to predict the OD passenger flow for different line categories for an emergency. A real typical emergency involving the Beijing urban rail transit (BURT) system in 2017 is analyzed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model. The results show that this model can effectively predict OD passenger flow in a URT system during an emergency, which provides basic support for the evacuation of passengers.
