A Cost-Effective IoT Model for a Smart Sewerage Management System Using Sensors

Abstract: The sewerage system is a primary element of a city and is responsible for the congestion of both rain and gray water from homes and industries. It is essential to have a monitoring system and a plan to perform prior expansion in the sewerage management system, to avoid massive disruption. However, there is no monitoring system in several overpopulated cities in the world, and the expansion process faces myriad difficulties and takes much time. This paper presents a model for an intelligent sewerage management … Show more

“…LoRaWAN and Wi-Fi emerged as the subsequent two most frequently employed wireless communication technologies, making appearances in the literature 6 and 12 times, respectively. The integration of different wireless communication technologies has been explored in several studies for optimizing data acquisition and transmission in the field of wastewater infrastructure management applications [101], [114]. For example, Chaudhari et al [115] and Sasirekha et al [116] integrated multiple wireless communication technologies, such as Wi-Fi, LoRaWAN, and GSM, to provide a reliable and efficient communication network.…”

“…However, most of the prior works in these fields reported only the cost of equipment, so only the cost of necessary equipment was used as the grounds for comparison in this comparative study. Furthermore, comparing the cost of the associated equipment to comment on the cost-effectiveness of the underlying system is an approach that has been followed by several researchers in the broad domain of IoT, as can be seen from recent works [108][109][110][111] in this field. As shown in Table 1, the cost of equipment for the development of this AAL system was USD 262.97.…”
