PurposeSince Zuckerberg's announcement to change Facebook's name to Meta Platforms Inc. on October 28, 2021, the concept of the metaverse has gained unprecedented popularity in the business world. Tech giants, SMEs and start-ups across various sectors are making substantial investments in metaverse-related technologies. Despite this, scholarly research in entrepreneurship and strategic management regarding the metaverse remains limited. This paper, grounded in value creation theory, aims to analyze how value is generated in the metaverse era.Design/methodology/approachThis paper conducts a thematic analysis of 895 press releases published by LexisNexis between October 28, 2021, and October 28, 2022. The analysis identifies the primary emerging themes related to value creation in the metaverse age.FindingsThe thematic analysis reveals four significant emerging themes concerning value creation in the metaverse age: (1) factors enabling value creation, (2) digital resources contributing to value creation, (3) motives driving value creation and (4) practices of value creation.Originality/valueThis paper represents the inaugural attempt to analyze the metaverse through a value creation lens. Given the substantial investments and growing academic interest in the metaverse, understanding value creation in this context is a pressing concern. Additionally, this study provides valuable insights and suggests critical questions for future research on the metaverse.

<p>This comprehensive analysis delves into the historical progression and important technological and contemporary advancements of computer vision inside the metaverse. The metaverse, which can be characterized as an interactive virtual reality environment that mirrors the physical world, signifies a novel domain for the utilization of computer vision in various applications. These applications span from object identification and tracking to gesture recognition and augmented reality. Additionally, a thorough evaluation of specific case studies occurs to provide a deeper understanding of the subject. Despite notable progress, the incorporation and utilization of computer vision inside the metaverse present numerous obstacles, including computational expenses, apprehensions regarding data privacy, and the faithful replication of physical aspects of reality. Potential solutions are examined, including deep learning approaches, optimization strategies, and the formation of ethical guidelines. A comprehensive analysis of anticipated patterns within the industry is also included, with emphasis on the confluence of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and blockchain technologies. These convergences are predicted to create substantial prospects for the advancement of the metaverse. This review culminates by offering a contemplation on the ethical considerations and duties that arise from the utilization of computer vision in the realm beyond mortal existence. Research findings demonstrate that these technologies have greatly augmented user engagement and immersion within the digital domain. Readers can enhance their understanding of the interdependent connection between computer vision and the metaverse through the present analysis of existing scholarly works. Thus, this study aspires to make a valuable contribution to the advancement of research in this new domain.<strong></strong></p>

The metaverse, a burgeoning virtual reality realm, has garnered substantial attention owing to its multifaceted applications. Rapid advancements and widespread acceptance of metaverse technologies have birthed a dynamic and intricate digital landscape. As various platforms, virtual worlds, and social networks within the metaverse increase, there is a growing imperative for a comprehensive analysis of its implications across societal, technological, and business dimensions. Notably, existing review studies have, for the past decade, primarily overlooked a metaverse‐based multidomain approach. A meticulous examination encompassing 207 research studies delves into the technological innovation of the metaverse, elucidating its future trajectory and ethical imperatives. Additionally, the article introduces the term “MetaWarria” to conceptualize potential conflicts arising from metaverse dynamics. The study discerns that healthcare (45%) and education (22%) are pivotal sectors steering metaverse developments, while the entertainment sector (9%) reshapes the corporate landscape. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a 9% role in enhancing the metaverse's marketing and user experience. Security, privacy, and policy concerns (11%) are addressed due to escalating threats, yielding practical solutions. The analysis underscores the metaverse's profound influence (57%) on the digital realm, a phenomenon accelerated by the COVID‐19 pandemic.
