A Decentralized Self-Organizing Service Composition for Autonomic Entities

Abstract: In service-oriented environments and distributed systems, service composition allows simple services to be dynamically combined into new, more complex services. Service composition techniques are usually designed as an extension to service discovery. Traditional techniques try to match a user’s requirements, often complex, with the available services. However, one-to-one matching is inefficient; it is preferable to meet the request from available services even when one of the basic services is not present. Sep… Show more

“…To reduce composition and execution failures while dealing with complex user requirements, existing service composition techniques investigate flexible composition planning mechanisms such as: open service discovery approaches and dynamic service planning approaches. A graph-based service aggregation method [1,26] models services in an aggregation graph based on the parameter dependence of the services. It dynamically composes services to support a task in a workflow when a direct match between the task and a single service does not exist.…”

“…Al-Oqily et al [3] propose a decentralized service composition solution. However, service discovery in this solution relies on the geographic location of each node in the network.…”

“…In a dynamic service composition, services are composed on demanded in real-time, not configured or deployed in advance [3]. Dynamic service composition can also be divided into centralized and decentralized mechanisms.…”

“…The use of a policy-based, context-aware architecture to handle the inter-operation between and the dynamic adaptation of different service-specific, semantic overlay networks was reported in Al-Oqily and Karmouch (2011). This agent-based architecture utilizes context information from a variety of sources to trigger policies that reconfigure the overlay's operation, e.g.…”
