A design strategy for four-connected coordination frameworks

Abstract: Reactions of tetrahedral Cu(I) and Ag(I) cations with 2,3,4,5-tetra(4-pyridyl)thiophene allows targeted construction of coordination frameworks with zeolite-like, 4(2).8(4), topologies.

“…Selected bond lengths and angles are given in Table 2. The X-ray structure establishes the presence of the hexanuclear complex anion [{(C 6 + cations along with three molecules of acetone and one molecule of n-hexane as lattice solvent. The platinum atoms are bonded to two diphenylphosphido ligands, which act as bridges between both metal centres, and to two C 6 F 5 ligands in the case of Pt(2) or to two CN bridging ligands in the case of Pt (1).…”

“…The platinum atoms are bonded to two diphenylphosphido ligands, which act as bridges between both metal centres, and to two C 6 F 5 ligands in the case of Pt(2) or to two CN bridging ligands in the case of Pt (1). The N atoms of the cyanide are coordinated to the Pd atoms, which complete their coordination with two C 6 We also tried to obtain an X-ray structure of complex 9 but unfortunately only poor quality crystals were obtained after many crystallisation attempts. The X-ray data measured with the diffractometer had a very low intensity, which was almost non-existent at 2θ angles Ͼ 40°.…”

“…Herein, the TPT ligand exhibits l 2 -coordination mode although it has four equivalent potential coordinated N atoms. In other words, the TPT ligand in the title MOF presents a unique coordination mode in comparison with those MOFs reported previously [13,14]. By closer inspection of the structure, these 1-D chains are further connected by a lot of intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions to form a 3-D network.…”

“…Clearly, there are ample opportunities for the design of new MOFs from TPT with interesting structural diversity and applications in the field of optical materials. However, as far as we know, studies on the MOFs assembled from the TPT ligand are still very rare until now, although some functional MOFs constructed from TPT have been investigated recently [13,14]. Therein, the TPT tetradentate ligand exhibited l 3 and l 4 -coordination modes to construct diverse 2-D and 3-D MOFs, respectively.…”

“…[10][11][12][13][14] In this field, however, the rigid symmetric ligand 1,2,3,4-tetra-(4-pyridyl)-thiophene (TPT, Scheme 1) is less explored in the self-assembly of coordination polymers. 16 This ligand also possesses four potential coordinating N-donor atoms. Therefore, it can coordinate to metal centers with diverse modes.…”
