ResumoEste estudo avaliou as relações entre níveis de depressão, ansiedade e regulação emocional em 47 mulheres com experiência de violência conjugal. Também, foi investigada a gravidade das situações de violência e os níveis das agressões sofridas e perpetradas pelas mulheres. Por fim, foi investigado se há diferenças nos sintomas de depressão, ansiedade e regulação emocional nas mulheres que relataram sofrer violência e aquelas que identificaram sofrer e perpetrar violência. Os resultados indicaram sintomas leves de ansiedade e moderados de depressão e de desregulação emocional entre as participantes, e foram verificadas correlações positivas significativas entre tais sintomas. A comparação entre os grupos de mulheres que sofreram violência e aquelas que sofreram e perpetraram violência não indicou diferença nos níveis de depressão, ansiedade e regulação emocional. Tais resultados evidenciam que a exposição à violência conjugal representa um fator de risco para a saúde mental das mulheres e que a avaliação psicológica é útil para o desenvolvimento de estratégias de intervenção ajustadas às demandas clínicas. Furthermore, it was investigated the severity of violence situations and the level of aggression suffered and perpetrated by women. Finally, we investigated possible differences in levels of depression, anxiety and emotional regulation between women who had reported suffering violence and those who reported suffering and perpetrating violence. The results indicated mild levels of anxiety, moderate levels of depression and emotional dysregulation among participants, showing significant correlations. The comparison between the group of women who had reported suffering violence and those who had suffered and perpetrated violence did not indicate differences in depression, anxiety and emotional regulation levels. These results show that exposure to intimate partner violence represents a risk factor for women's mental health and that psychological evaluation is useful for the development of intervention strategies adjusted to clinical demands. Intimate partner aggression (IPA) is a serious national health concern that affects an alarming number of individuals and can lead to substantial psychological and physical suffering. Situational risk factors that arise in the immediate context of IPA reflect statelike influences that trigger aggression. Because these factors are more variable and fluctuate according to the situation, they are potentially promising targets for prevention and intervention efforts (e.g., through cognitive and behavioral interventions). Within this realm, two factors in particular appear to play a prominent role in the etiology of IPA: alcohol intoxication and cognitive emotion regulation strategies. In contrast to prior correlational work, the present study experimentally manipulated alcohol consumption and emotion regulatory strategies to assess their individual and combined effects on IPA, which was measured both observationally and through self-report. It was expected that both alcohol intoxication and anger rumination would increase IPA perpetration, whereas reappraisal would result in decreased IPA perpetration. Further, intoxication and emotion regulation strategies were expected to have interactive effects on IPA perpetration such that rumination would enhance associations between alcohol intoxication and aggression, whereas reappraisal would attenuate the relationship between alcohol and IPA perpetration. Hypotheses for the study were partially supported. Findings show that participants in the alcohol condition generally displayed greater IPA than participants in the placebo condition. Emotion regulation strategy condition was not found to affect IPA. When examining only the effects of alcohol and emotion regulation strategy condition, emotion strategy use did not moderate the relationship between alcohol intoxication and IPA. However, alcohol and emotion regulation strategy conditions were found to interact with trait levels of rumination and reappraisal to predict IPA. The implications of these results, future directions for research, and implications for IPA intervention and prevention strategies are discussed. Racial and ethnic differences in emotion regulation: A systematic review

Objective: Emotion regulation is a transdiagnostic mechanism with relevance to the etiology, maintenance, and treatment of a wide range of clinically relevant outcomes.This study applied systematic review methods to summarize the existing literature examining racial and ethnic differences in emotion regulation.Methods: We systematically searched four electronic databases (PsycINFO, Embase, MEDLINE, and CINAHL Plus) using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.Results: Of the initial 1253 articles, 25 met the inclusion criteria. Findings for emotion regulation strategies generally provide evidence for racial/ethnic differences (71% of reviewed studies), with ethnoracial minorities largely exhibiting greater use of emotion regulation strategies.Whereas the results for emotion regulation potential were slightly more mixed (63% of reviewed studies found racial/ ethnic differences), ethnoracial minorities were also largely found to report lower emotion regulation potential. Conclusion:This review advances the literature by providing additional support for racial and ethnic differences in emotion regulation.
