A Digital Library for Research Data and Related Information in the Social Sciences

Abstract: In the social sciences, researchers search for information on the Web, but this is most often distributed on different websites, search portals, digital libraries, data archives, and databases. In this work, we present an integrated search system for social science information that allows finding information around research data in a single digital library. Users can search for research data sets, publications, survey variables, questions from questionnaires, survey instruments, and tools. Information items ar… Show more

“…-Publication search is more common than dataset search, with almost 28% more submitted queries, in the ISS. This is in line with the observations already made in [7]. -Dataset search queries are much more repetitive than publication search queries with 69.88% queries getting re-issued to the search system; in contrast, the queries are less repeated (58.43%) for publication searches.…”

“…To prepare the workshop, we will release some sample data sets from the scientific search systems LIVIVO 4 and GESIS-wide Search [5] 5 and some Docker templates to allow early adopters to implement first prototypes. At the workshop, we would like to have these early adopters who took part in this open beta phase to present their first-hand experiences to lay a foundation for a full-size campaign in 2021.…”

“…In the big data environment, digital L&I information resources increase and age at a growing pace, with the diversification of data sources and the growth of data volume. Meanwhile, the user demand for discovery services is changing rapidly [1][2][3][4][5][6]. e visualization technique has been increasingly adopted to mine the data on L&I [7][8][9][10][11].…”
