Abstract:Magnets in the fragment separator region of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) would be subjected to extremely high radiation and heat loads. Critical elements of FRIB are the dipole magnets which are used to select the desired isotopes. Since conventional NbTi and Nb 3 Sn superconductors must operate at 4.5 K, the removal of the large heat load generated in these magnets would be difficult. High temperature superconductors (HTS) have been shown to be radiation resistant and can operate in the 40 K tem… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
