A distributed topology information system for optical networks based on the semantic web

Abstract: The research networking community has embraced novel network architectures to provide e-Science applications with dedicated connections instead of shared links. IP and optical services converge in these new infrastructures to form hybrid networks. Lightpaths are the services offered to clients in the optical portion of the network. They are chosen because they guarantee the appropriate QoS in terms of bandwidth and latency.NDL -the Network Description Language -is a data model offering users and providers of l… Show more

“…-The Presentation Layer is related to the network services to be implement. A few descriptive languages tailored to specific scenarios were proposed in the past [11][12][13][14]. We proposed a more general one called Network Resource Description Language (NRDL) [15], which is designed for a network service composition context based on an ontology model.…”

“…Existing models include the Common Information Model [11] that provides an object-oriented schema for different devices but does not have a schema that represents some of the DWDM gear in a GLIF environment. The authors of [12] developed the Network Description Language (NDL) which is a modular set of schemas based on the Resource Description Format mainly to describe networks. This functional model is based on International Telecommunication Union (ITU) G.805 [13] with the addition of capability information.…”
