“…[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] Ionic liquids (ILs) based hydrogel, also known as ionic hydrogel are the best alternatives because of their inherent properties that can be easily fine-tuned by judiciously selecting the constituting cations/anions of ILs. [12][13][14][15] Polymeric hydrogel having 1-methyl-3-hexadecylimidazolium bromide as an additive with stimuli-responsive, self-healable, adhesive, and injectable properties are recently reported. When bromide was replaced by salicylate through metathesis with the sodium salicylate (NaSal), the SAIL formed ionic hydrogel at 4.45 % w/v in aqueous medium.…”

“…23 Combining different ionic functionalization to the judiciously composed structural architecture of the IL can specifically exploit the advantages of both, IL and solid polymer structures, enhancing the mechanical stability, improved processability and durability of the hydrogels. 12 Bearing in mind all abovedescribed considerations and in the framework of our interest in obtaining supramolecular gels from IL, herein we synthesized active pharmaceutical ingredient based IL, i.e.1-methyl-3-hexadecylimidazolium salicylate (C 16 MeImSal) as the LMWG. The C 16 MeImSal forms the ionic hydrogel that exhibited gel to sol transformation as a function of temperature.…”

“…In addition, other techniques have been used to characterize prolamin‐based complexes. These include 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (Chaunier, Viau, Falourd, Lourdin, & Leroy, 2020; Hamdani, Li, Rabnawaz, Kamdem, & Khan, 2020), size exclusion chromatography (Ioerger, Bean, Tilley, & Lin, 2020), gel electrophoresis (Chen, Dong, et al., 2020; Federici, Jones, Selling, Tagliasco, & Campanella, 2020), isothermal titration calorimetry (Li et al., 2018), and liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry (Li, Zheng, Lin, Zhu, & Zhang, 2020). As more advanced techniques become available, it may be possible to obtain more in‐depth information about the chemical composition, secondary structure, and three‐dimensional organization of these prolamin‐based complexes.…”

“…More recently, lidocaine ibuprofen has been incorporated into zein filaments, using extrusion, to allow for a sustained release of the API‐IL. In physiologically relevant conditions the IL‐zein filaments showed sustained release of ibuprofen and lidocaine for two weeks, a drastic improvement over the non‐extruded materials which had released both drugs after 60 h. [ 61 ] Ren et al. [ 62 ] also prepared Ibuprofen API‐ILs, based on ammonium and phosphonium cations, and evidenced a fivefold enhancement over free ibuprofen in vitro.…”
