A dual feed PIN diode based switchable multiband planar meandered antenna for intelligent transportation system application

Abstract: This article presents a dual feed switchable coplanar linearly polarized multiband meandered microstrip patch antenna. The antenna provides multiband functionalities with switching allowable at one of the nine adjacent frequencies. The proposed antenna, loaded with two symmetric PIN diodes, comprises dual-patch configuration and excited by coplanar microstrip feeds, it operates within 1 to 15 GHz frequency bands. The induced current of the antenna can be changed by switching the diodes, resulting in different … Show more

“…Various methods have been suggested to design reconfigurable antenna for microwave and THz application [1][2]. Some methods are electrical, such as PIN diodes [3] and varactor capacitors [4]. Some methods are physical, such as using micro-switches [5] and other types of these antennas are based on materials such as the use of ferrites [6], graphene [7] and liquid crystals [8].…”

“…Due to this, an RF Chock Inductor is not necessary. The mentioned DC biasing method is also being used by other authors in literature 48‐50 . The antenna given in Reference 51 is used as reference antenna for gain characteristic's measurements.…”

“…An aperture‐coupled frequency‐reconfigurable has been described . Different reconfigurable antenna architecture with dual‐fed PIN diode‐based multiband for ITS and vehicular communication applications are reported in References . Studies of the above literature show that the three bands proposed by the Federal Communications Commission for the ITS application are not covered together in any antenna design.…”
