A field investigation on adaptive thermal comfort in school buildings in the temperate climatic region of Nepal

Abstract: A comfortable indoor environment is essential for students' health and academic performance in schools. As no major concerns were raised on the thermal comfort of students in Nepalese schools, we investigated the present condition of students' thermal comfort in school buildings in the temperate climatic region of Nepal. A survey was conducted on the indoor thermal environment and the associated thermal perception during the middle autumnal season in 2017. Altogether, 818 students participated in this survey; … Show more

“…In a situation where students would not feel thermal comfort, they are allowed to open windows or change clothes. Shrestha et al [6] investigated fall thermal comfort in natural ventilated schools in Nepal, an area where the climate is temperate. A total of 818 people were examined.…”

“…This is because, in the case of simulationrelated research, building regulations strictly related to climatic building zones must be applied, as, for example, in current research of the assessment of the profile of the use of the HVAC system based on the Spanish national BC in the aspect of energy efficiency of residential buildings [182]. In the case of thermal comfort studies, and urban areas studies, outdoor comfort works can be carried out using bioclimatic zones, such as, for example, in actual studies about adaptive comfort in temperate and tropical climates [183,184]. Note that most of the studies have a well-determined local view, these were carried out in climate zones established under the National BCs of different countries.…”
