A Flow Velocity Measurement Method Based on a PVDF Piezoelectric Sensor

Abstract: To measure the flow velocity of a fluid without affecting its motion state, a method was proposed based on a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) piezoelectric film sensor. A self-made PVDF piezoelectric sensor placed parallel with the flow direction was used to measure the flow velocity. First, the piezoelectric characteristics of PVDF were obtained theoretically. Next, the relationship between flow velocity and sound pressure was verified numerically. Finally, the relationship between flow velocity and the electri… Show more

“…Flow velocity measurement sensors. With the knowledge of turbulent boundary layers and piezoelectric effect, Li et al proposed a design of making flow velocity sensors using PVDF films ( Figure 20 ) [ 135 ]. The positive correlation between the square of output voltage and the sixth power of flow speed was found during testing.…”

“…In reference [26], measurement of volumetric velocity i.e., 3D velocity for the characterization of turbulent swirling flow is reported. In reference [27], a method for measurement of flow velocity using a polyvinylidene fluoride as a piezoelectric film is stated. Estimation of fluid flow through pump was discussed in reference [28] through modeling of pump.…”

“…The second, associated with heavy rainfall, is highly correlated with the rainfall rate, and is nearly white [3]. The study of rainfall noise is important to marine physics not only to study wind and rainfall over the ocean [4] but also for the use of sonars [5][6][7]. This is also important for biologists when studying the impact of artificially generated sound on marine mammals [8].…”
