A Functional Domain Based Approach in Neurocognitive Rehabilitation with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation: A Case Report

Abstract: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a novel brain stimulation technique which has kindled hope in alleviating motor, language as well as cognitive deficits in neuronal injury. Current case report describes application of tDCS in two phases using two different protocols in a patient with hypoxic injury. In the first phase anodal stimulation of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex improved the language fluency. Subsequently, after 6 months second phase application of anodal stimulation over posterior par… Show more

“…Previous studies show that in both the clinical [ 28 , 29 , 62 ] and healthy populations [ 26 , 27 ], EFs are enhanced by tDCS. Given thatthese EFs are also targeted by mindfulness, the greater reduction of craving in the tDCS + MBSAT group may be related to the direct involvement of enhancing executive functions.…”

“…In depression patients, although 2 week A-PASAT training (five sessions per week) with bilateral PFC tDCS (left anode–right cathode) reduced maladaptive ruminative thoughts, it failed to affect depression severity and arithmetic performance ( Vanderhasselt et al, 2015 ). Meanwhile, in a patient with cerebral hypoxic ischemia-induced bilateral parietal lesions and Gerstmann syndrome, left PFC anodal tDCS immediately improved phonemic and semantic fluency ( Sreeraj et al, 2019 ). Six months after hospital discharge, a 10 d consecutive left PPC anodal tDCS improved several cognitive task performances ( Table 3 ), but not one-digit multiplication and division and all three-digit arithmetic task performances ( Sreeraj et al, 2019 ).…”
