A gallic acid derivative and polysaccharides with antioxidative activity from rose (Rosa rugosa) flowers

Abstract: In this study, the major antioxidant components of rose flower were identified. An aqueous extract of rose flowers was chromatographed on CM-cellulose in ammonium acetate buffer (10 mM, pH 4.5) to yield three un-adsorbed peaks F1, F2 and F3. Each of these peaks was subjected to gel filtration on Sephadex G75. F1 yielded two peaks, whereas both F2 and F3 gave rise to only a single peak. Spectroscopic studies using NMR and FTIR revealed that F3 is a gallic acid derivative. It exhibited the highest antioxidative … Show more

“…β-Glucan is a natural component of grain that possesses important antioxidant activity (Kofuji et al, 2012).Polysaccharides from plants have been demonstrated to be one of most promising groups of antioxidant compounds (Ng et al, 2004). Polygalacturonase extracted from barley exerts a noteworthy antioxidant effect as well as various biological activities (Kofuji et al, 2012).…”

“…Mushrooms are one of the best sources for the structure of β (1→3) and β (1→6) glucan (Jantaramanant et al, 2014). Polysaccharides from plants have been shown to be a number of the most promising groups of antioxidant compounds (Ng et al, 2004). However, mushroom β-glucan can influence several cellular functions, including cellular glucose uptake (Jantaramanant et al, 2014).…”

“…Gallic acid (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid, GA), a naturally occurring plant phenol, is abundant in natural plants (15)(16)(17)(18)(19) and it has been reported to have anti-bacterial (20), anti-viral (21), anti-inflammatory (16), antioxidant (22) and antitumor functions in many human cancer cell lines (21)(22)(23). Although GA has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells, there is no available information addressing GA-inhibited migration and invasion of prostate cancer cells in vitro.…”
