A general method of the synthesis of “step‐ladder” polymers

Abstract: A new general method for the synthesis of "step-ladder" polymers m'as developed. It involves the interaction of aromatic diamines, containing in o-positions aromatic heterocycles with reactive hydrogen atoms, with aromatic dicarboxylic acids or their derivatives. This general method was used for the preparation of new classes of thermally stable polymers of type 27, 28, 29 and 30, containing 1.2,4-triazole-, 1.2.4-triazolo[4,3-c]qtiinazoline-, benzimidazoleor benzimidazolo[ I ,2-(.]quinazoline-rings. “…35 The oxidative cyclisation of compounds 1-10 to 11-20 were accompanied by the disappearance of the absorption maxima at 3150-3300 cm -1 , which are ascribed to the vibrations of NH group of the benzimidazole ring; at the same time the appearance of a new maximum at 1360-1388 cm --1 , which is characteristic for benzimidazoquinazoline ring with a tertiary nitrogen atom, appears. 23,36 The 1 H NMR spectra of the compound A as well as its derivatives have been recorded in CDCl 3 /DMSO-d 6 using TMS as internal standard. In the spectra of 2-(o-aminophenyl) benzimidazole (A), signals at d 6.4 and d 8.25 ppm were appeared corresponding to free amino and imidazolyl protons respectively.…”

“…Phosphorus-organic polymers have been prepared by transesterification of dialkyl phosphites with diphenylolpropane [2], glycerol or pentaerythritol [3,4], 1,5-pentanediol, 1,6hexanediol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol and diethanol amine [5, 61. Polyester resins containing phosphorus have been prepared by polytransesterification of the diphenyl ester and diethyl ester of vinyl phosphonic acid with some glycols and bivalent phenols [7] …”

“…Halogen-containing dianhydrides derived from tetracarboxylic acids with a fixed steric structure are promising compounds from the viewpoint of their reactions with amines to obtain monomers having an imide ring with a reactive functional group in the substituent on the nitrogen; polycondensation of such monomers with other difunctional monomers should lead to formation of fire-and temperature-resistant polymeric materials [1].…”
