A general strategy for the facile synthesis of AuM (M = Pt/Pd) alloyed flowerlike-assembly nanochains for enhanced oxygen reduction reaction

Abstract: In this work, a general strategy was developed for the facile synthesis of bimetallic AuM (M ¼ Pt or Pd) alloyed flowerlike-assembly nanochains (FANs) with the assistance of diprophylline as a structuredirecting and stabilizing agent. The morphologies, crystal structures, and compositions of AuPt and AuPd FANs were investigated primarily by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The formation mechanism was discussed in some detail by varying… Show more

“…Figure 3(C) is the XPS spectra of Au 4f,t he two obvious peaks with BE at 84.0 and 87.7 eV belong to Au 0 , and the two wide peaks around 83.7 and87.4 eV are attributed to Au(+ 3). [39] Figure 3D demonstrates the XPS spectrum of Te 3d in Pt 20 Pd 20 Au 10 Te 50 NWs, whicha re split into two double peaks. The BE located at 572.7 and 583.1 eV are assigned to metal Te 0 ,a nd the other ones at 575.8 and 586.2 eV correspond to Te ( + 4).…”

“…Note that the bimetallic alloys possess the so-named synergistic effects in the catalytic process; on one hand, the introduction of another metal can generate certain geometric configuration, which is called the ensemble effect, and on the other hand, the altered electronic structure induced by hetero te metal-metal bond is favorable for the activation of the catalyst [14,15]. A variety of Pd alloys, including PdAu [16][17][18], PdAg [19][20][21], PdRh [22], PdNi [23,24], PdCo [25,26], PdCu [27], and PdSn [28] have demonstrated higher ORR activities and enhanced long-term stabilities than the pure Pd-based catalysts.…”

“…Recently, Feng et al developed a general strategy for the fabrication of alloyed AuPd flowerlike‐assembly nanochains, and the onset potential (+0.94 V) was comparable with that of Au 33 Pd 67 . However, the half‐wave potential (+0.81 V) was much lower than that of Au 33 Pd 67 (+0.84 V) . This comparison further shows that the peptide‐based approach has great potential in the fabrication of bimetallic NPs with enhanced electrocatalytic performances toward the ORR.…”
