Abstract: The Ultrabithorax (Ubx) gene of Drosophila melanogaster includes two functionally distinguishable regions. One is the Ubx transcription unit, which gives rise by alternative splicing to a family of morphogenetic Ubx proteins (UBX). The other is its upstream bithoraxoid (bxd) region.
